And with us, building green doesn't start at the job site, it starts in the forest. iLevel, as part of Weyerhaeuser, is creating wood products that are produced in environmentally responsible ways. And we use proprietary technologies, from manufacturing to design software, to optimize every tree.
Trees are an ideal building material. They are renewable, and in our forests they're certified to sustainable forestry standards. Many other options including steel and concrete are not renewable.
During photosynthesis, trees also absorb carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, from the air and give off oxygen. All of this carbon continues to be stored in the wood after harvesting and is used to make iLevel's resource-efficient building materials. In 2006 the products we manufactured stored the equivalent of 8.3 million tons of CO2.
So even though building with wood is good - building with our
wood is even better.
